Busy Busy Busy Weekend

but a fun one.  Where to start.

My weekend all started on Friday when hubby came in to inform me he wanted a new TV, 55 inches to be exact.  I said “WHaT?  Anyway, to make a long story short, we decided to spend the day Saturday in search of his perfect TV.  But before we could do that, I had a new place that I had wanted to check out.  A new “shabby, chic, vintage, wonderful, glorious store that I had read about @ Mustard Seed Creations.  It is Wild Rose store frontlocated in a little town just about 13 miles from me  in Walkersville, Md.  It’s  called the  “Wild Rose & Co. and Marketplace”. All I can say is this place was simply  beautiful with all the goodies for sale, and the owner and ladies that are selling their goods here are just as beautiful.  And oh so talented.  I can’t wait to go back and scout out new things as they go in.  Hubby even really liked the shop and the ladies there.

red cabinetWell, anyway, since we were in the market for a new TV, we knew we were going to need something to house it, and I found what I thought was the perfect piece of furniture there.   *Note the big red cabinet…that is it, isn’t it a beautiful.  I’m in love with this piece of furniture. Anyhow, hubby wasn’t so sure, but he knew how much I loved it and wanted it, he gave me the heads up to get it.  However the practical side of me kicked in and I decided I needed to think of it.  Plus he ended up finding another piece in the shop that he liked better for the TV (which by the way he hadn’t bought yet). I know the perfect place in my house for it, but he isn’t so sure about that either.  Our space is pretty limited in this room…So what do you ladies think?  Yes, No?  I think my dream place for this piece would be in a kitchen as a island someday, but definitely not this house.

Okay enough about my dilemma’s, we ended up finding him a TV, and not a 55 inch.  To big for the room…so we decided on a 47 inch LED and he LOVES it.

Do you know that little TV cost me two days of rearranging furniture to accommodate it,because we all know, you can’t bring something new in the house, without moving a million things around for just the right look…So last night about 10 or so, I finished up putting things back together in the family room.  What a job that was!  Now my thoughts are if I get that red cabinet, will I have to redo again?  Do I dare to think otherwise?

Now if you want to meet the ladies that share this wonderful space, you can check out their blogs.

One project down

and several to go…today I am going to link up @Frou Frou Decor with my Fabulous Friday Find, and if you want to check out some great little projects then stop over and say hello.  Thanks Terrell for sharing your party with me.

One day last week while I was scouring the local Goodwill shop, I ran across this old spice rack for $2.  (Forgive the quality of these pictures, hey, at least I remembered to grab the camera.  LOL)

20100924_11So earlier this week when I had nothing better to do….NOT!  I decided I would take a little trip to the local store and pick up some white spray paint….so I could work on this.  I am quite pleased how it turned out. After two coats of paint, and one coat of antiquing, and a little sanding…this is how it looks now.

You can see how well the original paint came through when I sanded it.  It’s almost finished, I need to add a sealer to it.

So what do you think?  Better? Worse? And now to figure out what to do with it.  Debating on whether to use it in the kitchen or in my craft room..leaning more towards the craft room.

Have a blessed and wonderful Friday.

Thankful Thursday-Sept 23

Good Morning ladies, it’s another Thursday to share what we are thankful for, today I’m thankful for the opportunity to stay home.  I wemo_flowers1_thankfulThursdayas a stay at home mom while my kids were growing up and I loved every minute of it.  However, when I was going through my separation and divorce I had to go to work.  I loathed it!  I accepted it as the way it was but I hated it so.  I missed being home and making my home our family’s oasis away from the outside world.  There is something so wonderful about being able to create a home that your family loves to be and looks forward to coming home too. For the last year, I have had the opportunity to stay at home again, and I am loving every minute of it again and everyday I give thanks to God for that opportunity.

So what are you thankful for today? If you would like to read what others are thankful for or join in the fun, stop by @Grace Alone.

Simple Pleasure - Sept 23

simple pleasure So what is my Simple Pleasure today…..Flannel Sheets, yep you heard me right. When the weather gets cooler, I’m digging in my linen closet…..

With the cooler evenings and mornings it is the perfect time to break flannel sheetsout  the flannel sheets.  To me, nothing says comfort like flannel sheets (except maybe flannel jammies).  Now is the time for me to get my  bed cozy and soft for the winter nights.  Maybe even use a little linen spray of lavender to make sliding between the sheets irresistible.

Front Door Welcome

A fall wreath for your front door is the perfect way to welcome the beautiful fall season.

I love autumn wreaths, the vibrant colors, and all the hues of the season, with sprinkles of nature peeking through. Here are a few that I have saved in my “idea” bank.

autumn1The thing I like most about this one is all the sunflowers.

fall-wreath2And with this one, I really like all the fruit and berries….

bittersweet wreathBut I think this one is by far my favorite.  I {heart} bittersweet.  So simple and colorful.  Martha Stewart show us how to create this wreath, here

autumn-wreathThere is so many elements of this one that I really like too, here again is my bittersweet, but my sunflowers are mixed in with it.  And I would have never thought to put my corn in the mix.

wreath1Beautiful!

wreath2 Wow, loving the Japanese lanterns mixed with the bittersweet.  Such a great punch of color.

We all know you don’t have to use a fall wreath on the front door, it makes a festive centerpiece for the table, by just adding some candles or a hurricane lamp or glass vase. The possibilities are endless.

Autumn-MSo what do you use as your centerpiece for the Harvest season?

I have a wreath that I need to rework…now I have some great ideas, if you really don’t know how to create a wreath, the video below will give you a general idea of how you can put one together.  Take a look!

Dough Riser decked out for the Autumn Season

Happy Tuesday ladies, wow, can’t believe I haven’t been here since  Friday, but I have been one busy woman.  Lots of things going on in my little house.  I have been spending my time creating a happy cozy harvest home for me and my family.  Oh the joy I have been having.  (I will post some more of my fall pictures soon)

Saturday and Sunday were spent with me putting out more decorations in my home, as well as sorting out some boxes that have been storage.  It was almost like Christmas for me.  I had forgotten just all that I had.

football mom On Saturday evening, my children all gathered here for the night so that they could watch Football on Sunday, (we have the football package)  so they can see all their games and it was just a great time of family and fun.  Plus we had lots of yummy finger foods to snack on.  One thing I made that was a big hit was a Rueben Dip.  So yummy.

Rueben Dip Recipe

Ingredients
  • 1/2 cup mayonnaise rueben dip
  • 1/2 cup Thousand Island dressing
  • 16 ounces sauerkraut, rinsed and squeezed dry
  • 8 ounces shredded corned beef
  • 16 ounces shredded Swiss cheese
Directions
  1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C).
  2. In a small bowl, combine mayonnaise and dressing.
  3. Spread sauerkraut into a 9x13-inch baking dish. Layer corned beef, Swiss cheese, and the mayonnaise-dressing mixture on top of the sauerkraut.
  4. Bake for 20 to 25 minutes.

Now, where was I…..

Yesterday was spent out with my daughter, she and I spent the day shopping and going out to lunch.  We had a wonderful time.  I really miss spending time with her, afterwards we came back to the house and just vegged and watch some TV together until it was time for her to leave.

So today, I am playing catch up with my blog hopping and posts.  Lots of ideas twirling around in this head of mine, and I need to get them all wrote down and on paper, or in a post, before I lose them.  homemaker3

Heading out for a bit to grab some spray paint, I have a few little projects that I need to work on and will be showing you later.  But first things first, BUY PAINT!

But before I head out I wanted to share a wonderful dough riser all decked out for the harvest season.  Now, you don’t have to use a dough riser for this, actually any kind bowl would work if it were large enough, or maybe a wooden tray, really anything that would HOLD your “fillers”.

dough riser

How easy would this be to do?  I love all the colors and textures found in this centerpiece.

Fill the dough riser with small pumpkins, gourds, and candles, pinecones.  Then sprinkle it  with things found in nature, gather some leaves, acorns, a little moss, etc. feel free to be creative.

This would make a great  low centerpiece on a dining room table, entry table or sideboard.  It's  great for parties or get togethers because  it doesn’t block  views of your guest or the food.

And one of the best thing about it, is it shouldn’t be expensive.  Relatively cheap since most of things are free.  Try bringing the outdoors in.

Oh yeah, I wanted say thanks to all that have dropped me a note about my header, I am so glad you like it….however, I am working on something else that I would like to use, but at the moment I am kinda stuck…but if I get it all figured out, then I am hoping to have a different type of banner for you to see.

Have a very blessed day today.  I hope to get around to visit with you all later today or tomorrow.

The older the better

Good Morning Ladies, hope your enjoying your Friday and are looking forward to a wonderful weekend.  I know I am.

Instead of doing my weekly roundup today, I thought I would share something that I love antiques, and junk treasures.  As most of you know, if you have been reading my blog for awhile or even just surfing the pages, you realize I have a thing for things of old.

My hubby and I love to scour new “junk, um, I mean treasure ” stores, and a couple a weeks ago we found a gold mine.  I am in love with this place, it is three floors of pure heaven for a girl like me, well and my bf too.

This is a old barn, that the owner is redoing from top to bottom all by himself.  It’s still got a ways to go, but it’s incredible inside with all the exposed beams, and new wide plank flooring.

20100909_1

Look at the front of this place, all the chairs and goodies, just begging for some TLC, or maybe some paint.  {wink}

20100909_4

How cool is this sign, I need one like it to put on my front porch.   teehee

20100909_5

Loving all those old crates (my mind automatically when to the pantry remix that was done at The House of Smiths) and what about the carpenters tote there on the ground.  Lovin it, lovin it!  And all the things I could do with it.   I think hubby saw the smoke coming out of my ears, with the way my brain was working overtime.  He got me out of there quickly considering I already have several, this is what one of them looks like in my house now….btw, this is a small inventory of my rolling pins that I have been collecting for several years, and my rule of thumb is NEVER pay more than 5 bucks.  Most of them I picked up for 1 or 2 dollars.

20100912_33

One of weakness is anything that has to do with a kitchen or pottery, specially some crocks.  I wanted to take them all home, unfortunately the checkbook wouldn’t allow that, nor would the space in my house.  But if…..I had a big ole farmhouse, just sayin….

20100909_6 I have a passion for bringing new life to old things, that are seasoned with time, and if only they could talk, the stories they could tell with the things they have seen through the years.

I ran across this old antique cupboard (while daydreaming online one afternoon), and I fell in love with it.  Again, I am drawn to the old meeting the new.  How cool would this be to have in your house? Again, my mind started working overtime. I want this cupboard in my house….And I think it goes well with granite countertops too.  What ya think?

Hanging-cupboard

I hope you enjoyed your visit with me today, and hope you will stop in again real soon, I plan on sharing all kinds of wonderful autumny (is that a word, or a Cindyism) things in upcoming post.  Stay tuned!

Have a blessed weekend!
