Vanity Redo

Hi everyone, I hope you  had a wonderful weekend, I have had a great weekend spent at home and catching up on some projects.  I have a massive “to do” list that is in my “craft and redo” department.  One that I worked on this weekend, didn’t take long, basically I just shopped my house.  My favorite kind of shopping, because it requires spending no money.  Woohoo, hubby likes this type of shopping too.

I decided I wanted to start in my bedroom and redo a little vanity I picked up at a antique shop this past summer for $45.00.  I have had all kinds of plans for it, but they all require doing some sewing and since I am NO SEW kinda girl, I had to do the second best thing.  Here is the the vanity sitting all alone and looking “sad”. 20100131_7The first thing I did was went to the linen closet and starting digging around to see what I had in there that might work to add some color.   Granted I could have grabbed the handy dandy black spray paint can, but decided against it, since the weather is really cold and I would have had to work in the garage.  And of course, I didn’t want to wait.  I wanted to do it NOW!  So I found a black curtain that I had picked up at Goodwill over the summer for pennies, just for  one of those JIC projects.  Well here is the finished product.  (sorry the picture is a bit grainy, I’m not a photographer)

20100131_8

20100131_9

I incorporated a black mirror that I picked up at a yard sale several years ago for $5 bucks,  I {heart} it. Can you believe I have had it in my bedroom closet since I got it. I think it makes a great mirror for the vanity, the gold pedestal mirror was a gift from my hubby several years ago.  It is a vintage. My vanity tray was a gift frolipstick holderm my mom.  I have placed several little goodies that I have picked up over the years, a little crystal sugar dish holds my loose (daily jewelry) and my vintage lipstick holder.  Which I also picked up at a antique mall for like $3.00.  I have used two of my white milk glass stemware for my make up brushes and my mother-in-laws antique hat pins.

I wish the picture would have came out better but you get the idea.  So what do you think?

Recipe for Kindness

Mother-Wallpaper-04

Fold two hands together
And express a dash of sorrow
Marinate it overnight
And work on it tomorrow.

Chop one grudge in tiny pieces
Add several cups of love
Dredge with a large sized smile
Mix with the ingredients above.

Dissolve the hate within you,
By doing a good deed
Cut in and help your friend
If he should be in need.

Stir in laughter, love an kindness
From the heart it has to come,
Toss with genuine forgiveness
And give your neighbor some.

The amount of people served
Will depend on you,
It can serve the whole wide world,
If you really want it to.

necklace

get it on it. There are oodles to look at.  These pieces are the work of Amanda at Queen Bee’s Designs.  Everything Amanda has is great.  I love everything.  You will too.

Now with those little treats behind me, I am going to ask you what you are going to do this weekend?  Do you have any projects you are working on?  I have several 20100128_55 I hope to get to this weekend.  I have a bunch of linens, that I am trying to figure out what to do with.  Any ideas?  I love linens, so each time I go to the antique mall or good will and run across them for next to nothing, I pick them up.  Can’t help myself {teehee} This is just a fraction of what I have.  Instead of buying more I need to figure out something creative to do with some them.  I have doilies, runners, napkins, pillow cases, ect. 20100128_57 Most are white, but I do have some pretty soft pink ones.  Excuse the ones in the pictures to the left, I haven’t ironed them yet.  But I thought the pink would be great for Valentines Day or Mothers Day.  Too pretty to NOT buy, Right?   So any thoughts on how to use them besides there initial purpose, I would appreciate it.

Need to scoot, got things awaiting on me.

Hope you have a blessed Friday!

I encourage you

the waltons2

ladies if you haven’t read this post by Auntie Ruth then you are missing out on a blessing for family, so I encourage you to hop over and read it.  I enjoy reading her  post because they are so heart felt and honest.  Take a peek at today’s posting if you want to bless your family.

Now on to other things.  Can you believe it is already Thursday, and I haven’t accomplished nearly all that I have wanted too this week.  Granted I have spent WAY to much at this computer reworking this blog.  But hopefully I will get it where I want it to be.

I still have loads of pictures on my camera that need to be off loaded so that I can create some worthwhile post.  A few before and afters, some goodies that I ran across while I was out traipsing through the antique malls this past weekend.  My table decked out for Valentines Day.  It’s simple but so pretty.  So hoping by next week I can get a better handle on posting and a schedule that will work for me.

Most of all, I am still working on getting things better organized for my everyday lifestyle, so that all the things that are important to me, I am getting to do.  BALANCE!  balance Rhoda wrote a great post earlier on this, jump over and read it if you have a minute.  I think most of us want better balance in our lives.  I want to have time for reading my bible daily, working on my bible study, crafting, tweaking in my house, blogging, and reading, and of course spending more quality time with my family and friends.  So much to do and so little time, but I think I will get there.

Should scoot so that I can take care of other life duties today.  Hope you have a very blessed day.

Hugs,

Cin Sig

Different Directions

Hi all!

Home Simple Home is coming to a end…..

I’m testing out the new template over at “Life is in the details”.  Still have some tweaking to do,Road Sign 1 but I  think I like this a bit better.  What do you think?  You will find that I have rearranged things a bit, so take  a look around.  Still have more to add, but not alot.  As mentioned before, I was wanting to take this blog in a different direction but I wanted/needed to incorporate my “Life in the Details” and “Home Simple Home” blog together.  It has gotten so hard for me to post to one blog much less two…but I still want to be able to write and share my home projects and other home related things, as well as those spiritual and Christian inspiration that I thrive on.

So if you were a follower at “Home Simple Home” I hope you will add yourself  to my list of friends in the sidebar at Life in the Details.

I’ve spent to much time on this chore today so I am going to post this, and hope to get back to you all in the AM. Not to mention I have some blog reading to do.

Hugs,

The weekend and some great giveaways

Wow, I can’t believe it is Monday  already.  Where did the weekend go.  I had a very busy weekend and the weather Saturday was perfect with the sun shining after so many cold dreary days.  It was still cold but the sun somehow made it bearable.  Sunday was another story, lots of rain, and the temperature we still cold.  This morning, it is dreary and rainy again but with temps almost 60.  But I hear there is a cold front heading our way.  Oh goodie!

Saturday was a day spent doing one of my favorite things in the the whole world, scouring Antique shops with Michael and friends.  We hit three Antique malls.  I will try to share  my finds with you later this week.  We started out in Emmitsburg at the antique mall emmitsburg mall 1 emmitsburg mall 2 and I found a couple of little things.  Then we headed over to Hanover Pa, and hit two more.

Me and my friend walked away with some goodies.  After seeing all the prices in these places, it made me long for spring and yard sales.  I am gearing up for Yard Sale season.  How bout you?  After all that fun, we headed to dinner.  We hadn’t taken the time all day to eat and so at 7:00 or so we were famished.  Afterwards we had a little Christmas celebration.  We normally exchange gifts with this couple but due to all our schedules we hadn’t been able to fit it in until now.  So it was fun to still have a little bit of Christmas.  Now I can officially say that it over until next year.

Yesterday, was spent rearranging my furniture in my family room.  I will try to get a few pictures soon to share.  I need some help with one particular area.  So would like your comments and advice.

Also, hubby finally got our elliptical machine put toelliptical machinegether, so now I have NO excuses for not exercising.  Need to get this  body into shape before my son’s May 1 wedding.  I still need to shop for that mother of the groom dress.  Don’t have a clue what to even look for.  Help!

Since I was home yesterday I actually had a chance to cook and make a wonderful Chicken and Rice casserole, with enough leftovers for another meal.  Not sure if we will eat that tonight or tomorrow.  Tuesdays are normally hectic here in the evenings, no one is around until after 9 or so…so it’s always nice to have something you can pop in the microwave.  K..guess I just talked myself into having it tomorrow…so will have to plan something for tonight.

Today will be a bit busy, Tori needs to do some shopping, so I am going to take her to look for some new clothes for work.  She has a interview tomorrow for a new hair salon and they have a dress code, so she needs to pick up a few things.  Plus while I am in town I think I will make a run to JoAnnes.

Now for the fun stuff…

Giveaways  3 of them.  Woo Hoo!

Sassy-red-front-no-bow For the first stop…you have to stop in at Sarah Mae’s and register to win her “flirty apron”.  Too adorable.  All I will say, if you don’t you will be sorry.  Her little video is so sweet too.  She shares with us where we can actually purchase these aprons, and there are some sweet, flirty ones available.Thinking I might have to have one of these on my Valentines Day list.  Way better than chocolate. I like to spend time with Sarah Mae every morning.  She has the most insightful and inspiring blog for me.  Love her!

Now for the second giveaway…head over to Kim’s for a great Valentine Giveaway.  I love all the goodies valentine giveaway in this little treasure too.  Plus check out her blog.   And now for the next giveaway, you heard me right.  The next one.  Check out Donna at One Simple  Country Girl

Whew, all those giveaways wore me out.  Now, don’t just dwaddle your way over there RUN…before time runs out.

The Three Little Pigs & What’s a Christain

Happy Sunday

Ladies, if you have been visiting me either here or at “Life is in the Details”, then you know  I really love to listen to Chonda with her southern voice and all.  I hope you will enjoy listening to her as well.

Chonda has such a powerful message in this little video.

What’s a Christian?

Maya Angelou

'saved by grace

A woman's heart should be so hidden in Christ
That a man should have to seek Him first to find her.'
When I say... 'I am a Christian' I'm not shouting 'I'm clean living,'
I'm whispering 'I was lost, Now I'm found and forgiven.'
When I say... 'I am a Christian' I don't speak of this with pride.
I'm confessing that I stumble and need Christ to be my guide.
When I say... 'I am a Christian' I'm not trying to be strong.
I'm professing that I'm weak and need His strength to carry on.
When I say.. 'I am a Christian' I'm not bragging of success.
I'm admitting I have failed and need God to clean my mess.
When I say... 'I am a Christian' I'm not claiming to be perfect,
My flaws are far too visible, but God believes I am worth it.
When I say... 'I am a Christian' I still feel the sting of pain...
I have my share of heartaches, so I call upon His name.
When I say... 'I am a Christian' I'm not holier than thou,
I'm just a simple sinner Who received God's good grace, somehow!

I think this poem pretty much says it all for me as to what it truly means to be a Christian.   I think when we say we are a Christian, people expect us to be perfect and not make a mistakes, but that is unrealistic and impossible.  But because I am a Christian and a sinner, I make many mistakes but I know where and who holds the answers.

Ladies, I let myself stress out over stuff like this.   See, I told you I wasn’t perfect.  Which brought me to search out some ways that I can reduce my stress at times.  I found this little list at “Turn back to God”.

An Angel says, “Never borrow from the future. If you worry about what may happen tomorrow and it doesn’t happen, you have worried in vain. Even if it does happen, you have to worry twice.”

1. Pray
2. Go to bed on time.
3. Get up on time so you can start the day unrushed.
4. Say No to projects that won’t fit into your time schedule, or that will compromise your mental health.
5. Delegate tasks to capable others.
6. Simplify and unclutter your life.

7.
Less is more. (Although one is often not enough, two are often too many.)
8. Allow extra time to do things and to get to places.
9. Pace yourself. Spread out big changes and difficult projects over time; don’t lump the hard things all together.
10. Take one day at a time.
11. Separate worries from concerns. If a situation is a concern, find out what God would have you do and let go of the anxiety. If you can’t do anything about a situation, forget it.
12. Live within your budget; don’t use credit cards for ordinary purchases.
13. Have backups; an extra car key in your wallet, an extra house key buried in the garden, extra stamps, etc.
14. KMS (Keep Mouth Shut); this single piece of advice can prevent an enormous amount of trouble.
15. Do something for the Kid in You everyday.
16. Carry a Bible with you to read while waiting in line.
17. Get enough rest.
18. Eat right.
19. Get organized so everything has its place.
20. Listen to a tape while driving that can help improve your quality of life.
21. Write down thoughts and inspirations.
22. Every day, find time to be alone.
23. Having problems? Talk to God on the spot. Try to nip small Problems in the bud. Don’t wait until it’s time to go to bed to try and pray.
24. Make friends with Godly people.

25
. Keep a folder of favorite scriptures on hand.
26. Remember that the shortest bridge between despair and hope is often a good “Thank you Jesus.”
27. Laugh.
28. Laugh some more!
29. Take your work seriously, but not yourself at all.
30. Develop a forgiving attitude (most people are doing the best they can).
31. Be kind to unkind people (they probably need it the most).
32. Sit on your ego.
33. Talk less; listen more.
34. Slow down.
35. Remind yourself that you are not the general manager of the universe
36. Every night before bed, think of one thing you’re grateful for that you’ve never been grateful for before.

GOD HAS A WAY OF TURNING THINGS AROUND FOR YOU.

“If God is for us, who can be against us?” Romans 8:31

I  hope this little tips will encourage you to “turn it over to God and become stress free.

Happy Saturday all

Quote of the Day:
I was so hungry I could have eaten a horse. But only pigs were available.
--Anonymous

Good Saturday Morning

Even thought the temps  are cold, my morning looks like thissunshine-in-a-cup

bright and sunny outside with deep blue skies.  Beautiful!

to-do-list-nothing  Even though I have tons of things on my “to do” list here at home….like sort and purge the basement.  Ditto for the garage, and reorganize my bedroom closet and coat closet and kitchen cabinets, and…oh you get the picture….

antiquing I  I think I would rather be doing this today.   I haven’t been antiquing since before the holidays and I think I need to enjoy some of this sunshine and get outside, even it is only 30 degrees.

Hope you have a blessed Saturday!

James 1:5“If any of you lacks wisdom, he should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to him.”
