What am I most thankful for ?

What am I most thankful for this Thursday?

gift of eternal life

The gift of eternal life.  Thank you sweet Jesus for making a way for me to live eternally with you.

In the last several months since moving back to Kentucky, I have witnessed much sickness and death of loved one (older friends). And I am witnessing another slow and agonizing death of a dear friends husband (hence why I wasn’t on here at the blog yesterday).   And I am just thankful to know that when our end here on earth is over, it’s NOT over for us that believe.  God made us a way to never die.  I am so thankful for that assurance and gift.

Onto other happenings around here, today is my check-in.  Buy that I mean that I started working out on the treadmill several weeks ago, and last week I decided to take my measurements (inches).  So today I will check to see if the inches have melted away.  LOL….no really, not expecting any major progress, but I know some of my clothes are fitting a bit different so either way I am happy, and looking in the mirror I can see some difference….so it might take it some time to reflect in the actually measurements, I don’t know.

Since I am still unemployed, I will be spending my morning on the treadmill and with my bible reading.  I really enjoy this time.  I have read the Bible through twice now and this is my third go around.  I picked up a book by Dr. Henrietta Mears to accompany me in my reading the bible this time. what the bible is all about

This is the back cover.

imageIt helps me to better understand why things happened as they did.  I’m also taking the time to learn the books of bible in order, I have learned the first 27 books in order now to learn the rest.

Couple of questions here.  Do you have any great resources that help you with reading your bible or for bible study that you would like to share?  I’m always looking.
And also, what are planning to do today?  Please do share.

Just plain “THANKFUL”

that is what I am today.  As I sit here in my home, on my laptop, and watching the news on my TV and sipping coffee from one of my favorite cups, I realize how blessed and fortunate I am.

Knowing I have a home and a place to shelter from this hurricane that is rolling in, I am reminded that there are people that don’t have that luxury today.

So today I just want to thank God and keep in mind all that I have is his and I’m grateful.

where I am not where I could be

emo_flowers1_thankfulThursday
I don’t know about you, but for me, I’m feeling extremely thankful  that I am where I am, and not where I could be.  Let me explain.

Over the last several weeks, our pastor at church has been talking about “getting what we deserve”.  How thankful I am  that our Lord shows us mercy and give us grace and doesn’t give us what we deserve.  It makes me realize if I got what I deserve, I definitely would not be where I am today.

How bout you?

“A man can no more take in a supply of grace for the future than he can eat enough today to last him for the next 6 months, nor can he inhale sufficient air into his lungs with one breath to sustain life for a week to come. We are permitted to draw upon God's store of grace from day to day as we need it.” - D. L. Moody See: Deut 33:25; Psa 46:1; Heb 4:16

Thanks to Iris @ Grace Alone for hosting this party.  Come join us and share what you are thankful for.

Normal days at home

L
ately there seems to way to much going on.  Whether it is things to do, to get marked off the infamous “errand list” or places to go for those in need. Many of my family and friends are going through some difficult and painful times, which has added some extra activity.  And top of all that, I have much to do with thinking about “our future move”…to where, who knows…. but I know I have a itch to move on and get settled wherever God decides to plant us.

For me, there really doesn’t look like a lot of slow down time for me in the future.  So for me, today I am thankful for just a normal day at home, just taking care of my home.

Thankful Thursday 4/21/11

G
ood Morning friends, this week as I have been thinking about what I am thankful for I am jesus on the crossreminded that this is Easter and Holy week. And have much to be thankful for.  Jesus going to the cross for my sins….is there any greater love.  Thank you, God!

And as much as I am thankful to God for sending us his son, Jesus, and I am….. I’m also thankful for some of the traditions that go along with it.

The one that I am so giddy over this week is “Our Family Easter Meal”.  Mainly because it is a time for our family to come together and share a meal. And make more memories. Which is a rarity these days, unfortunately….so I have been combing through recipes books, and blogs looking for a new menu item to try, making sure I keep the “old favorites”.

I can’t tell you how thankful I am that I  will get to share this day with ALL my children this year.  I am so excited I’m like a little kid in a candy store.

If you would like to see what others are thankful for this week join us.

Today I am linking up to Thankful Thursdays. Feel free to join us.

Simple Pleasure and Thankfulness 4/14/11

Hello friends…..at this time of year there are so many little things on my list to be thankful for and so many little pleasures in life.  But the one I chose for today is. Old friendships.

“A friend is a gift you give yourself.”

You see this week, I met up with a girlfriend I hadn’t seen in over 15 years. Oh we have been talking about getting together for the last 3 years…yep, that’s right.  Due to schedules and life, it just never happened.  At the moment we live about 1 hour apart so we decided to meet half way in the middle.  Oh and am I glad we did. We had the best time.

It’s like we have never been apart.  We picked right up where we left off.  However, after 15+ years you know there is a lot of “catching up” to do, talking about our children….where they are all at now and what they are doing.  Plus I had one that is married, which we had to discuss.

We became friends years ago when I was living in Germany.  We had moved there when my ex was in the Navy, and she was there due to her hubby’s job. We met on the ball field.  Our sons played baseball together and we became fast friends.  Being a veteran of living overseas, and she was a “newbie”, I enjoyed helping her along.

Eventually we were in Sunday school, church, bible study together. She had such a magnetic personality, and people loved her. She was a wonderful dear Christian woman who loved the Lord and aspired to “serve him”.  I really miss those days of growth in our Christian walks.

We were together quite often..  whether at a church function or ballgame or just dinner.  We shared, cared, wiped tears, laughed, the list goes on.  However, once returning back to the states in ‘93 we got together and that was the last time I saw her….albeit we sent the Christmas cards.  So seeing her still looking as young as ever was such a treat.

She and I both are now in new marriages. What is it about men deciding after 20+ years, you aren’t worth the effort to make it work?  Oh that’s another post I am sure…. anyway, we caught up on our new marriages. Mine of 3 years and hers of just 6 months.

And we decided we would get together again soon so that our new hubby’s can meet.  Plus she and I plan to make this a once a month gift we give ourselves.  I am already looking forward to the next luncheon.

Devotions to make you think

This is a devotion that I received via email and thought it quite appropriate for “Thankful Thursday” posting as I have been thinking alot lately about how thankful I am for these little reminders that show up in my mailbox.

Thoughtful Living

PSALM 25:8-15

Psalm 25:8-15 (New International Version, ©2011)

8 Good and upright is the LORD;
therefore he instructs sinners in his ways.
9 He guides the humble in what is right
   and teaches them his way.
10 All the ways of the LORD are loving and faithful
toward those who keep the demands of his covenant.
11 For the sake of your name, LORD,
forgive my iniquity, though it is great.

12 Who, then, are those who fear the LORD?
He will instruct them in the ways they should choose.[a]
13 They will spend their days in prosperity,
and their descendants will inherit the land.
14 The LORD confides in those who fear him;
he makes his covenant known to them.
15 My eyes are ever on the LORD,
for only he will release my feet from the snare.

Are you living thoughtfully and intentionally—or automatically? It's so easy to get up each morning, do our work, enjoy some relaxation or entertainment, and fall into bed each night without giving any thought to God's involvement in our lives. But to be ignorant of how He has blessed, guided, protected, and warned us is a foolish way to live. Just consider the benefits of keeping our spiritual eyes and ears open throughout the day.

Those who are aware of the Lord's presence during their daily activities enjoy the peace of knowing that He is always in control and working to accomplish His good purposes. Every day's experiences with Him teach them to know and love Him more.

When we learn to see God's footprints in our days, we will become aware of the scope of His involvement in our lives. Maybe He strengthened you for a task or opened a door of opportunity. Perhaps He guided your decisions or helped you respond in a godly way to a difficult person.

If our ears are open to the Lord's warnings and instructions, we won't repeat the same mistakes again and again. But those who are deaf to His voice will continue in unhealthy thought patterns, negative emotions, and foolish responses.

Each night before you go to sleep, take some time to reflect on the day's activities. The Lord is constantly with you, guarding and guiding your way. He wants you to see Him in everything and understand life from His perspective as you rely on His wisdom and power to face any challenge.

I’m always so thankful for anything that makes me sit back and reevaluate myself and my Christian walk. How ‘bout you?

I hope you will join us for Thankful Thursday.  Thanks Lynn for being a gracious hostess.

Simple Pleasure and Gratitude 2-10-11

Today I thought I could tie them both in together….

It’s been a while since I have gotten to participate in these meme’s but I just love them both and the other ladies are so dear that I have had the opportunity to meet and share with.  I’ve been moving and getting settled since Halloween of last year so it’s good to be back.  :)

My Simple Pleasure and Gratitude today is simply REST

DSC00002   It’s wonderful to have the time to rest our bodies and know that we don’t have anything pressing that has to be done. Can you say grateful?  After several months of running and going non stop it is wonderful to be able to simply stop and rest.

Thankful Thursday-Good Health

Another Thankful Thursday is upon us….and today I am extremely thankful for my health.  For the last several days I have not been healthfeeling all that well.  Not really anything bad, but just didn’t feel good, mainly upset stomach and just feeling blasé.

And this morning  I woke up feeling much better and it made me realize just how much we take for granted when we feel good.

And it gave me enough incentive today to decide to change some of my habits. Drink more water, green tea, drink less caffeine, etc… I want to feel healthy more than I want to feel tired, sick
and just not myself.  How bout you?

Today Lynn, suggested we share ten things that make you uniquely you.

  • I have a heavy southern accent
  • I share my birthday with the Marine Corp
  • I LOVE history
  • I love to watch it snow, but hate driving in it
  • I love  old black and white classics
  • If I could have done anything other than being a mom and housewife, I would have liked being a investigator
  • I'm the oldest
  • I lived in 4 other countries
  • I like to salt my apples when I eat them ( I get laughed at for this)
  • I take sugar and cream in my coffee.

So what is unique about you?
What are you thankful for today?  If you would like to join us for Thankful Thursday hosted by Lynn @Spiritually Unequal Marriage, stop in.

Simple Pleasures and Thankful Thursday

all rolled into one.  :)

simple pleasure Today I am joining Dayle @ A Collection of This and That for Simple Pleasure and Lynn @  Spiritually Unequal Marriage emo_flowers1_thankfulThursday for Thankful Thursday.

I have so much in this life to be thankful for and I give God the thanks on a daily basis. Even the small things.

By him therefore let us offer the sacrifice of praise to God continually, that is, the fruit of our lips giving thanks to his name. (Hebrews 13:15)

Today my simple pleasure is really simple really.  Pumpkin Spice Latte…

pumpkin-spice-latte-sign

When I see the signs go up at Starbucks or DD I know that fall has finally arrived.  It is the one thing during this season I afford myself the pleasure.

I love curling up with my latte and thumbing through some old books or magazines or simply watching a wonderful old Classic movie.  Doesn’t get much better than that, does it?

You might ask why I am thankful for this little simple pleasure….well again for me, it is simple.  For the past several weeks, when my children Pumpkin-Spicehave come through town on the way to my house, they have stopped off and picked one up for me.  Why, because they know it is a treat that I love.  And seeing their giving and generous hearts is always something to be thankful for.  Plus I am thankful that it is a wonderful time to create  special memories with them while we sip our drink of choice for this colorful and beautiful season. So what are your simple pleasure today, and what are you thankful for?

God is so good!

Pumpkin Spice Latte
makes 1-2 servings

Ingredients:
2 cups milk
2 tablespoons canned pumpkin OR 1 teaspoon of Torani Pumpkin Spice Syrup (I use canned pumpkin)
2 tablespoons sugar or sugar substitute
2 tablespoons vanilla extract
1/2 teaspoon pumpkin pie spice
1-2 shots espresso (about 1/4 cup of espresso or 1/2 cup of strong brewed coffee if you don't have an espresso machine.)

Directions:
In a saucepan combine milk, pumpkin and sugar and cook on medium heat, stirring, until steaming. Remove from heat, stir in vanilla and spice, transfer to a blender and process for 15 seconds until foamy. If you don't have a blender, don't worry about it - just whisk the mixture really well with a wire whisk.

Pour into a large mug or two mugs. Add the espresso on top.

Top with whipped cream and sprinkle pumpkin pie spice, nutmeg, or cinnamon on top.

Life is Good!

Thankful Thursday-Sept 23

Good Morning ladies, it’s another Thursday to share what we are thankful for, today I’m thankful for the opportunity to stay home.  I wemo_flowers1_thankfulThursdayas a stay at home mom while my kids were growing up and I loved every minute of it.  However, when I was going through my separation and divorce I had to go to work.  I loathed it!  I accepted it as the way it was but I hated it so.  I missed being home and making my home our family’s oasis away from the outside world.  There is something so wonderful about being able to create a home that your family loves to be and looks forward to coming home too. For the last year, I have had the opportunity to stay at home again, and I am loving every minute of it again and everyday I give thanks to God for that opportunity.

So what are you thankful for today? If you would like to read what others are thankful for or join in the fun, stop by @Grace Alone.

Thankful Thursday

emo_flowers1_thankfulThursdayGood Morning, or should I say Good Day, I am getting a much later start this morning on this post than I had wanted too.

But the reason for my tardiness is because since last evening at dinner time, I have been feeling quite nauseated and just all around sick to my stomach.

Which brings me to what I am  thankful for today.  I am soooooooo thankmedicineful for medicine, for the possibility of a few hours of feeling a bit better,   without it today I wouldn’t be able to do this post.  And I hate to miss a opportunity to be thankful. Not to mention I am thankful that my hubby ran out late last night to pick up the medicine for me.

Keeping this short and sweet.

If you want to see more “thankful” ladies, check us out @ Grace Alone where Iris is our wonderful hostess.

Thankful Thursday- Sept 9- Best Friend

emo_flowers1_thankfulThursday

Welcome back for Thankful Thursday, if this is your first time here, welcome.

Hubby and I had the chance to spend the weekend running around and hanging out with some friends, but these weren’t just any friends, it was my best friend.

So I have been spending time being thankful for her.  She is one of the people that knows me so well and I don’t have to explain anything to her, she and I can finish one another's sentences and knows what the other is thinking without a word.

We can spend time just being quiet, and it’s not uncomfortable.

We share the love of the same things.

We can cry together

We can laugh together, and we do.

She is like a sister to me.

She is Donna.

best friend

What are you thankful for today?  Check out what others are saying @  Grace Alone .  Thanks  Irisfor being such a gracious hostess.

Cup of Joe and a book

As I am sitting here this morning thinking about my simple pleasure  and my Thankful Thursday post, they both fit so nicely together.  I love it when that happens.

My simple pleasure this morning is that first cup of coffee while spending time with the Lord.

And being thankful for the opportunity to enjoy it, as so many women don’t have that opportunity with having to run out to work.

Now that is the “best part of waking up”.

Some linky party love

Simple Pleasures and Thankful Thursday are today…seems like I was just writing my post for last week and here we are another week down the road.  I’m a bit late getting this up this morning, I have been taking care of some other computer business…  (time got away from me).

simple pleasureFirst one up is Simple Pleasures@ A Collection of this and that with our hostess Dayle.

magazines_tabbed Ya’ll may think my simple pleasure is silly this morning….but it is magazines…. I love them, and believe me if you look around my house, you will know it too.  Let’s see, with trying to declutter I have thrown away 2 huge moving boxes full of magazines I have saved since the late 80’s.  Yep, you heard me right.  Well it is hard to part with my Country Living and Southern Living.  But I did, and hubby was relieved. But I digress…the reason they are a simple pleasure for me is because it is a cheap way for me to escape and daydream, as well as gather useful information to help make my home run more smoothly.  Tips and tricks that others have tried.  I love trying new things to see if they work for me.

Do your magazines look like this, mine do.  All tabbed up.  There is so much clever advice and tips in them and I can’t retain it all, so I tab them for future use.  However, I don’t do so well in keeping them all in one place, so when I move, I am making it a point to do this with them. Granted it might take a whole room to organize them all, but  I’m just sayin……

magazines_organized

Now onto Thankful Thursday hosted by Laurie @ Women taking a stand.

emo_flowers1_thankfulThursday

Since we are on the topic of books (I mean magazines are books, right?)  I am thankful for this book. Bible front view

My bible!  It is the holy inspired word of God.

It  is the basis for the way I live my life, or at least try to.  It gives me in the instructions on how to live.

I am thankful for the opportunity to study my bible without fear of persecution . I am also thankful that I can start my day off with quiet time with my Lord.  God gives us so much in HIS word. For that I am thankful too.

Jesus loves me! This I know,
For the Bible tells me so.
Little ones to Him belong;
They are weak, but He is strong.
Chorus:
Yes, Jesus loves me!
Yes, Jesus loves me!
Yes, Jesus loves me!
The Bible tells me so.
Jesus loves me! This I know,
As He loved so long ago,
Taking children on His knee,
Saying, “Let them come to Me.”
Chorus
Jesus loves me when I'm good,
When I do the things I should,
Jesus loves me when I'm bad,
Though it makes Him very sad.
Chorus
Jesus loves me still today,
Walking with me on my way,
Wanting as a friend to give
Light and love to all who live.
Chorus
Jesus loves me! He who died
Heaven’s gate to open wide;
He will wash away my sin,
Let His little child come in.
Chorus
Jesus loves me! Loves me still
Tho' I'm very weak and ill;
That I might from sin be free
Bled and died upon the tree.
Chorus
Jesus loves me! He will stay
Close beside me all the way;
Thou hast bled and died for me,
I will henceforth live for Thee.

Thankful Thursday-August 19

emo_flowers1_thankfulThursday On Thursday’s I like to do several meme’s, Simple Pleasures at “ A Collection of This and That” and  “Thankful Thursday”. I posted my Simple Pleasure a bit earlier (see post below), so now I will focus on my Thankful Thursday.

You know there are many things to be thankful for each given day if only we look for them, and sometimes we don’t have look very far.  This week, I have been pondering God’s amazing love for us.  It is beyond jesus on the crossanything I can ever articulate or fathom.  But it leads me to the thing that I am grateful for today and that is the  gift of eternal life.  Thank you sweet  Jesus for loving me so much that you went to the cross to die for me and my sins.  It’s simply amazing to know that I am loved that much.

Jesus Paid My Debt

Jesus paid a debt I owed
A debt I could not pay
It was only by his merciful grace
that for me there was a way

I was born a sinner
inherited from Adam and Eve
The only way to have my debt paid was
to believe on Jesus and him receive

He came to pay for our sins
at such an awful cost
They put a crown of thorns on his head
and nailed him to the cross

When he was dying in agony
people watched him and did stare
Some said "He saved others
why don't He just come down from there"

But Jesus had to stay upon
the cruel cross you see
For he was hanging there
suffering for you and me

He had to stay on the cross
for our sins to pay
Then he cried "It is finished"
the debt paid in full that day

Romans 6:23 - For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.

Thankful Thursday

emo_flowers1_thankfulThursday Wow, I can’t believe it is already Thursday (and August at that) and time for another Thankful Thursday. I missed last week, with trying to get ready for our upcoming trip.

With so much to be grateful for I have chosen a few that are speaking to my heart this morning, I am so thankful for my home.  I love my home and being here. And God has graciously given me some time at home from a full time job, I am so grateful for that much needed break.  God has blessed me with a wonderful hubby who works hard at his day job, just to come home and work hard here.  With trying to sell our house, we are always tweaking something which keeps my hubby in a constant “to do mode”.  I am so thankful for him and his attitude.  No matter how he feels he never gives up or in.  I could learn alot from him.

I’m also thankful for the new carpet we had laid in our basement yesterday.  What a difference it makes.  I wish we had of done it earlier.  My hope is that it will someday make a nice play area for another set of children to grow up in.

I’m thankful for the wonderful time we had this past weekend visiting with relatives at my hubby’s family reunion.  It was a great time sharing memories and food.

Thankful for the bit of rain we got last night, and the promise of more today.

Thankful for good friendships. A wonderful friend is moving away today, but I am thankful that God brought us together for a short time.

Today we will be linking up at Laurie’s place, Women Taking a Stand.  Hop over and join us.

And whatever you do, in word or deed, do everything in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him.  Colossians 3:17

Since my last post, it hasn’t been boring.  I have made a trip home to Kentucky to visit with family and witness my nephew become a legal member of our family.  That was a truly awesome day for my sister, and as tears strolled down our faces, she whispered to me “ I’m finally a mom”.  Thrilled and ecstatic don’t do justice to her feelings that day.

Although I made the trip alone, hubby had to stay home, it was some fun time with my mom and dad.  Spent alot of time eating out, watching some movies, and running to antique shops.  A very favorite past time for me and my mom.

But since getting back home, some areas of my life I have been fretting over.  I hate to even mention it because I sound like a broken record.  But selling this house is taking a huge toll on me and making me question my trust in God. Is he listening to me?  Did I actually say that?

God's post it1Why is it so hard to trust God when things look so bleak.  I really don’t distrust God, I really do trust him, but I keep asking myself why certain things aren’t happening for us and everything is working out for all those around us.  Is selling this home some kind of lesson?….what am I suppose to be learning from it?  PATIENCE…..oh boy, I am not good with this trait.  I am finding myself getting disgruntle over the smallest of things.  I am getting anxious about everything.  All my feelings are so raw and I could cry at drop of a hat.  I just want to move on…..I want to start the next chapter in my life. But apparently I have unfinished business in this chapter.

So I am back to “trusting God” that he knows what’s best….I read “

“Trusting God actually takes effort. Trusting God actually takes work. It trustinggod
takes reading the Bible. It takes meditating on Scripture. It takes praying
about things. It takes taking our own souls to task and stopping one kind of
thinking and turning to another kind of thinking. It takes work. It takes
effort.”

this excerpt was taken from “Trusting God” by Carolyn Mahaney, Carolyn goes on to say “

The Bible says that without faith it is impossible to please God (Heb.
11:6). Fear is sin. And as my husband has often graciously reminded
me—God is not sympathetic to my unbelief. Why? Because fear,
worry, and unbelief say to God that we don’t really believe He is
“merciful and gracious, slow to anger and abounding in steadfast
love and faithfulness” (Ps. 86:15). We are calling God a liar.”

Ok, WOW I never really thought about that before.  How God views my lack of faith and trust.

If you are lacking in faith and having a hard time Trusting God” check out the whole article written by Carolyn Mahaney.

In saying all that, I have much to be grateful and thankful for:

  • My nephew,Caleb
  • Wonderful time spent with my hubby this last week, we have had a incredible time with some awesome discussions.
  • The wonderful rain we received this week to make our flowers and gardens happy.
  • Great friends to share a meal with.
  • My DIL receiving her AA .
  • Another great sunny day and seeing the flowers sprinkle the earth with color. God is a awesome artist.
  • Home movies of my children taken 26 years ago.  I can relive their youth.
  • And I am thankful for this house too, at least I have a nice home and I can make the payments because we have work. So even when I am disgruntled with having it, I am grateful that I do, because many don’t.  God has been so good to me.
  • Thankful for my wonderful hubby.  (pic below was taken at our rehearsal for our wedding)

Thankful Thursday

emo_flowers1_thankfulThursday

Today I am thankful for so many things.  God has been truly good and gracious with me. Moreso than I ever deserve.

I’m a firm believer that one should have gratitude in his heart and be truly happy with what he has been blessed with.  Lately I have been feeling a bit “tattered” and through my bleak times I was finding it hard to be thankful.  Although I knew in my head I had much to be thankful for I just didn’t feel it in my heart.  But no today…..Today I am thankful that my “thankfulness is back”.

I’m thankful that I am getting to go visit my family in Kentucky for a few days.

Thankful I will be there when my sister’s son’s adoption goes through on Tuesday.  Praise God!
