I got it



That decorating bug again.  I seem to get hit with this malady several times a year and I have it now.  I have a great urge to do some decorating but since I am not in the “place” to it, I can only dream. 

Several things I like in this photo.  Like the apple walls with white trimming  along with the stone fireplace.

Apple green walls with tangerine and lemon yellow accents add a playful contrast to the natural stone fireplace and hardwood floors. 

Would love to have these cubbies in  office. How bout you?

Custom-built egg-crate shelving covering an entire wall provides ample room to mix storage and display. A mix of magazine organizers, baskets, and boxes provides storage for periodicals, stationery, and painting and office supplies and creates a pleasing, layered mix of objects.

A simple white living room is given character and depth with charming vintage pieces, including a 19th-century wooden tub that has been turned into a coffee table.

a favorite cool summer treat

Lately I have been trying to stay cool on these hot days and this is a little something that I throw together.  What a great way to get some fruit into you.

I take some frozen mixed fruit (whatever I happen to have on hand) about 1-1/2 cups.
1/2 cup of Orange Juice, you could use any juice you have.
5-6 ice cubes

To make:


Shave ice first

then add


Orange Juice
Frozen Fruit

a little helpful tip:

I have found if I take my fruit out of the freezer and put in the fridge, in a little Tupperware or plastic dish until I am ready for it, it is easier to blend. Usually when I make one, I automatically put frozen fruit in the fridge for the next go around. 


Throw it all in a blender and blend and you come out with this.

Weekly Roundup 6/17/11

where I am not where I could be

I don’t know about you, but for me, I’m feeling extremely thankful  that I am where I am, and not where I could be.  Let me explain.

Over the last several weeks, our pastor at church has been talking about “getting what we deserve”.  How thankful I am  that our Lord shows us mercy and give us grace and doesn’t give us what we deserve.  It makes me realize if I got what I deserve, I definitely would not be where I am today.

How bout you?

Gotta love chalkboard clings

It was so easy to do once I found the Chalkboard clings.  I ordered mine from ABC Stuff

A brief tutorial on how I made mine, really super easy!

First I found a object that I could trace around.

A new recipe, tried and true

ast night I decided to try a new recipe, boy was it  yummy


.  It is called “ Crock Pot Santa Fe” .  I found this recipe while surfing the web a few weeks back and ran across this wonderful Recipe blog.  Gina @ Skinny Taste has some awesome recipes. She also offers info, such as:

Servings: 8 servings • Size: 1 cup • Old Points: 3 pts • Points+: 4 pts
Calories: 190 • Fat: 1.5 g • Fiber: 5.6 g • Carbs: 23.1 g • Protein: 21 g


Below you will find a snapshot of the recipe she took.  (it’s much better than the one that I took)

And all served up.  (I didn’t have any scallions to top it with, but it was tasty all the same)

Serve this up on a bed of rice and top with cheese and your set.  Hubby really like this recipe so it is one I will definitely be making again. Easy (slow cooker meal)!



  • 24 oz (1 1/2) lbs chicken breast
  • 14.4 oz can diced tomatoes with mild green chilies
  • 15 oz can black beans
  • 8 oz frozen corn
  • 1/4 cup chopped fresh cilantro
  • 14.4 oz can fat free chicken broth
  • 3 scallions, chopped
  • 1 tsp garlic powder
  • 1 tsp onion powder
  • 1 tsp cumin
  • 1 tsp cayenne pepper (to taste)
  • salt to taste
Combine chicken broth, beans, corn, tomatoes, cilantro, scallions, garlic powder, onion powder, cumin, cayenne pepper and salt in the crock pot. Season chicken breast with salt and lay on top. Cook on low for 10 hours or on high for 6 hours. Half hour before serving, remove chicken and shred. Return chicken to slow cooker and stir in. Adjust salt and seasoning. Serve over rice.

Today I am sharing my list for “One Thousand Gifts”, it is where you come up with 1000 things that your are thankful for (gifts in your life). It is to help you better recognize just all the little blessings we have each day that we take for granted.

Ann Voskamp has written a book called just that. She also has a lovely and well one-thousand-gifts_thumb3_thumbwritten blog “A Holy Experience” if you aren’t reading you are missing it folks. I love reading her blog, many hours have been spent hours there. And she is the most delightful person to listen too. (No, I haven’t met her personally, but I have watched via vblog her series on the book)

I am so excited, because I finally found her book last week and I purchased it.  WOW!  It is beautiful written, she has such a way with words and the imagery that she conveys is mind boggling to me.  Not sure how she does it, but her talent for writing is impressive to say the least.  Definitely a God-given talent.  I can only digest so much at a given time, so I am reading this book slowly and with intention.  I am trying to savor the nuggets of wisdom written on the pages.

Tuesday thinking

   

 


w_010here is this year going?  It’s hard to believe we are into June now.  Time is just flying by

and thealarm clock weather is wonderful.  It was so cold and wet for so long that I am truly enjoying the sunny and hot days.

This past weekend is a blur, there was a flurry of activity but at the same time I can’t tell you anything that was really accomplished.  Just steady busyness.   I did hit some yard sales on Saturday morning, that might be a first for me this year.  I’m way behind on them, but as I shared with hubby, since I am not living in my own home, and don’t know what kind of home I will have in the future, I am a bit “bored” with them.  Did I say that? I hope not to loud, because I A

yard saleyard sales, but I am reminded again, that half the fun in them is the HUNT.  I love when I am hunting for things that I can use to decorate our home.  I hate paying retail anymore. Since my home at the moment, is small and a 2 bedroom apt. at that, I don’t have any real need to hunt for anything.  Except maybe something that I already have that might be stored away somewhere in the 896 boxes we have stored.  No I don’t know how many we have stored, but it’s a lot.  B



Yesterday was busy catching up on some things around the house.  On Monday nights hubby and my oldest son play softball for our church league. And since we can’t eat before we go, I decided to  prepared our dinner before I left so that  it was ready to eat when we got home.  When we got home and sat down to eat, it dawned on me how much better things run when we prepare ourselves.  In the past, we would have just came home and  try to find something to eat  or picked something up.  It reminded me of how when my children were small I planned our meals so that we could eat a meal even if it was a easy one, with little effort we could eat a balanced meal.  Those years have fallen by the way side since the children are all grown and gone from home but last nights meal  gave me the motivation to make that effort again for just hubby and I.  I still struggle with the empty nest at times and have difficulty trying to find what works best for just us, but I’m hopeful it will get easier as time goes on. 

I’m late getting this posted today as I have spent the day with my daughter and didn’t have time  before now.  I always love spending time with her. 

Now off to get a few things done before bedtime.
