Today I am sharing my list for “One Thousand Gifts”, it is where you come up with 1000 things that your are thankful for (gifts in your life). It is to help you better recognize just all the little blessings we have each day that we take for granted.

Ann Voskamp has written a book called just that. She also has a lovely and well one-thousand-gifts_thumb3_thumbwritten blog “A Holy Experience” if you aren’t reading you are missing it folks. I love reading her blog, many hours have been spent hours there. And she is the most delightful person to listen too. (No, I haven’t met her personally, but I have watched via vblog her series on the book)

Just plain “THANKFUL”

that is what I am today.  As I sit here in my home, on my laptop, and watching the news on my TV and sipping coffee from one of my favorite cups, I realize how blessed and fortunate I am.

Knowing I have a home and a place to shelter from this hurricane that is rolling in, I am reminded that there are people that don’t have that luxury today.

So today I just want to thank God and keep in mind all that I have is his and I’m grateful.

Lazy Tuesday!

Happy Tuesday everybody.  I hope everyone is having a great start to the week.

Today is looking like a rather slow day here for me.  I have been really lazy this AM….after getting up and getting showered, I had to get this hair washed….I decided to sit back and watch a movie.  One that my kids  gave me several movies at Christmas and I still hadn’t watched them all, so I threw “Julie and Julia” into the machine and starting watching.  Have you seen it? I really enjoyed it.

Julie_and_Julia_Book_Cover1

“Frustrated with a soul-killing job, New York secretary Julie Powell played by Amy Adams embarks on a daring project: she vows to master all 524 recipes in Julia Childs' landmark cookbook, Mastering the Art of French Cooking.'' Intertwined with Julie's story is the true tale of how Julia Child  played by Meryl Streep herself mastered French cuisine with passion, fearlessness, and plenty of butter.”

Watching this movie, has me in anticipation of the new cooking “Home on the Ranch” featuring Ree Drummond (The Pioneer Woman from blogland)this Saturday?  To find out more about it you can check it out on the food network.  Will you be watching?  My DVR will be set, jic.

So what are you doing today?

The weather here today is much cooler, it was around 50 when I got up this AM, with highs going to the low 80’s.  This morning would have been perfect for a sweatshirt.  This weather has me longing for fall.

I guess it is time to stop being lazy….but just wanted to see what everyone is up too.

Hope you have a very blessed Tuesday.

Don’t fall over

c
ause I know it’s been A. L.O.N.G. time since I have made a post…..didn’t plan on taking another hiatus but that is exactly what happened.

missed you

It’s hard for me to believe that it is the middle of August already and not sure about where you are living but here in Maryland our temps have been miserable.  However the last week we have been truly blessed by some wonderful rain and even storms and it has definitely cooled things off. It could stay like this until we run into fall.   Although I really hate the heat being so high, I prefer it over  the frigid cold and really do dread to see the onset of winter.

Life has been very busy for me this summer, and I  like it when that happens.  We have made several trips this summer, one of which was out to Texas for my stepdaughter’s wedding.  We spent 10 days out there, traveling all over the state.  Oh what fun we had. It’s  was the first time in a long time I wasn’t ready to come back home even in the 108 weather. It was great.

Now back to bizness……

I got it

That decorating bug again.  I seem to get hit with this malady several times a year and I have it now.  I have a great urge to do some decorating but since I am not in the “place” to it, I can only dream.

Several things I like in this photo.  Like the apple walls with white trimming  along with the stone fireplace.

livingroom8

Apple green walls with tangerine and lemon yellow accents add a playful contrast to the natural stone fireplace and hardwood floors.

Would love to have these cubbies in  office. How bout you?

wall-cubbies

Custom-built egg-crate shelving covering an entire wall provides ample room to mix storage and display. A mix of magazine organizers, baskets, and boxes provides storage for periodicals, stationery, and painting and office supplies and creates a pleasing, layered mix of objects.

Then I lean this way too

More of a simpler style.  But I am lovin this.

A simple white living room is given character and depth with charming vintage pieces, including a 19th-century wooden tub that has been turned into a coffee table.

livingroom7

Textures and shapes are enhanced against white. Subtle but significant details such as the original paint of a vintage fireplace mantel and the bold lines of an 18th-century American cupboard get their due when displayed against a backdrop of plain white walls.

a favorite cool summer treat

Lately I have been trying to stay cool on these hot days and this is a little something that I throw together.  What a great way to get some fruit into you.

20110614_3

I take some frozen mixed fruit (whatever I happen to have on hand) about 1-1/2 cups.
1/2 cup of Orange Juice, you could use any juice you have.
5-6 ice cubes

To make:

Shave ice first

then add

Orange Juice
Frozen Fruit

a little helpful tip:

I have found if I take my fruit out of the freezer and put in the fridge, in a little Tupperware or plastic dish until I am ready for it, it is easier to blend. Usually when I make one, I automatically put frozen fruit in the fridge for the next go around.

Throw it all in a blender and blend and you come out with this.

Summer goodness!
