Vanity Redo

Hi everyone, I hope you  had a wonderful weekend, I have had a great weekend spent at home and catching up on some projects.  I have a massive “to do” list that is in my “craft and redo” department.  One that I worked on this weekend, didn’t take long, basically I just shopped my house.  My favorite kind of shopping, because it requires spending no money.  Woohoo, hubby likes this type of shopping too.

I decided I wanted to start in my bedroom and redo a little vanity I picked up at a antique shop this past summer for $45.00.  I have had all kinds of plans for it, but they all require doing some sewing and since I am NO SEW kinda girl, I had to do the second best thing.  Here is the the vanity sitting all alone and looking “sad”. 20100131_7The first thing I did was went to the linen closet and starting digging around to see what I had in there that might work to add some color.   Granted I could have grabbed the handy dandy black spray paint can, but decided against it, since the weather is really cold and I would have had to work in the garage.  And of course, I didn’t want to wait.  I wanted to do it NOW!  So I found a black curtain that I had picked up at Goodwill over the summer for pennies, just for  one of those JIC projects.  Well here is the finished product.  (sorry the picture is a bit grainy, I’m not a photographer)

I incorporated a black mirror that I picked up at a yard sale several years ago for $5 bucks,  I {heart} it. Can you believe I have had it in my bedroom closet since I got it. I think it makes a great mirror for the vanity, the gold pedestal mirror was a gift from my hubby several years ago.  It is a vintage. My vanity tray was a gift frolipstick holderm my mom.  I have placed several little goodies that I have picked up over the years, a little crystal sugar dish holds my loose (daily jewelry) and my vintage lipstick holder.  Which I also picked up at a antique mall for like $3.00.  I have used two of my white milk glass stemware for my make up brushes and my mother-in-laws antique hat pins.

I wish the picture would have came out better but you get the idea.  So what do you think?

I also shop in my home. I can usually find what I want much quicker than if I went to some store. LOL! Great redo!

My sister had a vanity like that when we were growing up - it was pepto bismol pink. But right now, I'd love having it.
Love the black. I've painted a few things black and it takes tons of coats - even if I spray paint them. Your project is very clever.
